SHERLOCK CHARITY GIVEAWAY
Prize number one for six winners: One sticker, chosen from these designs.
Prize number two for one winner: A T-shirt chosen from these designs
If you are reading this because the shirt designs pictured above made your inner fangirl scream, then I’m assuming you know who Benedict Cumberbatch is.
If you are a fangirl and know who Benedict Cumberbatch is, then you have probably seen the film Hawking.
If you are a fangirl, know who Benedict Cumberbatch is and have watched his film Hawking, then you know that just watching an actor portraying a motor neuron disease (ALS) is hard. Below is a clip, if you haven’t.
Now picture witnessing the disease ravage a real victim, a victim you love and care for. (Yes, yes. I know Cumberbitches. You love and care for Benedict. That has already been established). Picture yourself standing helplessly by as you wait for the monster to take it’s victim completely, knowing that no matter what you do…there is nothing you can do.
I’ve been there. Two times; my great-grandmother and grandma.
And if we can’t find a cure soon, then I’ll be there again with my mother.
And if we don’t find a cure after that, it will be me.
Every day, 30,000 individuals are diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gherig’s Disease.
To read about what the disease does to your body click here. If you’re more of a visual person, watch this PSA here. In fact, I urge you to watch the PSA first before you continue reading.
We need to find a cure.
We have to.
And I need your help.
There are no treatments for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Zip. Noda. Zilch.
No cure.
Just a death sentence of three to five years.
I’ve raised over $5,000 the past few years for the ALS Association, but this year I’m aiming higher and I need you, my fellow fandom, to help me.
That’s where these prizes come in.
In an effort to raise awareness and (maybe) money, I’m hosting my first give-away here.
To win a T-shirt from my shop and a sticker from the lovely people at PineAppleGear, it’s really quite simple.
All you have to do is donate $1 to my Walk to Defeat ALS team. $1 gets you entered in to the drawing once. $2, twice and so on and so forth. Once you have also reblogged this post, you’re in!
Not only will you be helping yourself win a chance to look stylish, you are also helping others.
However, if you choose not to donate it still means just as much to me if you reblog this post to help me raise awareness about ALS.
The drawing will take place once I hit $300 in donations or April 5th, 2012. Whichever comes first.
So please.
Tweet this. Reblog this. Like this.
I need your help.
The Rules:
- To be entered you must donate at least $1 to my Walk to Defeat ALS team and reblog this post. If you don’t have a Tumblr account (thus, not able to reblog), you just need to show me proof that you’ve shared this somewhere.
- You can reblog as many times as you want, but only one of these reblogs will count towards your entry.
Raising money for the ALS Association not only helps further research, but also helps those who are already dealing with the effects that this disease has inflicted. None of your dollars, nor cents, will be going anywhere but to benefit the cause.
Plus, Loo Brealey supports me. Why don’t you join her? :)
SHERLOCK CHARITY GIVEAWAY. Pineapple Gear is proud to announce that we are participating in natwrites’ charity giveaway. All it takes to enter is a donation of at least $1 to her Walk to Defeat ALS team, as well as a reblog. This is a charitable cause for a disease that does not yet have a cure. Our hope is that we here in the great and magical space that is Tumblr can find it in us to do our small part to help those in need.
So let’s band together, arm in arm, and do our very best as fans, friends, and people.

CBS actually taking two ideas, not just Sherlock.
Okay, I almost got away without posting anything about CBS’s ill-advised take on the modern Sherlock Holmes. I have been trying to avoid getting caught in the angry swirl of indignant Sherlockians, myself. But I just remembered why ‘female Watson’ sounded familiar, and I have not seen anyone mention it, so…here I go.
Of course we know that BBC came up with the brilliant adaption of Sherlock Holmes into modern times, and CBS jumped on the bandwagon by taking the idea.
To prevent it from being a total ripoff, they have added the twist to have Watson be a woman, and Sherlock to be living in New York, under a form of rehab.
But here’s the thing….that has already been done, too!
They Might Be Giants.
Does that ring any bells?
It was a play written by James Goldman and was turned into a film in 1971. The plot?
”Justin Playfair is a millionaire who retreats into fantasy after the death of his wife, imagining himself to be Sherlock Holmes, the legendary fictional detective. Complete with deerstalker hat, pipe and violin, he spends his days in a home-made criminal laboratory, constantly paranoid about plots hatched by his (Holmes’s) arch-enemy, Professor Moriarty.
When his brother places Justin under observation in a mental institution, and conspires with his former business associate to get power of attorney, Justin attracts the attention of Dr Mildred Watson ), a psychiatrist who becomes fascinated by his case. After Justin demonstrates a knack for Holmesian deduction, the institution releases him, and Watson meets him at his home. Playfair is initially dismissive of Watson’s attempts at psychoanalyzing him, but when he hears her name, he enthusiastically incorporates her into his life as Doctor Watson to his Holmes.
The duo then begin an enigmatic quest for Moriarty, with Playfair/Holmes following all manner of bizarre and (to Watson) unintelligible clues, and the two growing closer to each other in the process.”
That’s right. Female Watson. New York. A form of rehab.
So…in other words, CBS is just combining two amazing ideas and trying to pass it off as their own.
Who knows…maybe Elementary will work. But I’ll probably just stick with Sherlock, myself.
We’re not sure where to stand on this whole Elementary business, but this is a bizarre and obscure point that we hadn’t seen either, so we thought it was worth bringing up. *totally going to go see They Might Be Giants now*

Q:Have you guys ever thought about doing Doctor Who stuff? Or there's a lot of competition for that??
Shamefully, we haven’t yet dug into Doctor Who, because we suck and stuff. D: We’ve loved exploring Sherlock because there’s so much potential (and we’re such big fans), but we’re always open to trying out new things! Did you have anything in particular you’d like to see done that hasn’t been done before?
Q:Hey, do you guys make stuff for Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?
We don’t yet. O: SHOULD WE? WHAT WOULD PEOPLE WANT ANYHOO?
Q:Just discovered this blog just wanted to express my love for you :D
Oh my, well thank you so much! :D You just made our day. :3
Q:Hi :D about your sherlock giveaway, should we only reblog once, or is this a multiple reblogs type of contest? Thanks!
Hello there! =D Multiple reblogs are just fine with us. We’re very glad someone asked. XD
A Most Random Query In Regards To Original Fiction
Going on a bit of a tangent here, but is there anyone out there who’d be interested in reading/supporting original, non-Sherlock fiction? We’re putting together a plan to launch a story of our own sometime in the future, and we’re curious if our sizable audience has any interest in that. Any takers?
Q:Do you have permission to use the quotes in the show to make money with? Do you have permission to use the term purple shirt of sexy to make money with? You are complaining about other people using your designs while you are doing the same and making money of it. Which is illegal and can get you into a lot of trouble.
Quotes and phrases are notoriously hard to copyright for very good reasons (look up Fair Use law), and even the use of certain copyrighted images are fair game as long as you use them in a satirical, parodying, or context-changing fashion (look up Transformativeness).
The internet is rife with designs that seem about a thousand times closer to copyright infringement than our (infringement-free) works, but even -they- are covered under the law.
Heck, two of our designs are out and out memes (including Purple Shirt of Sex, which you’ve cited); part of the whole point of memes is no one owns them, they’re everyone’s to play with. While we understand your point, the legal ground is on our—and the Sherlock merch community as a whole’s—side.
